Autumn in Japan

Now is the time of year when the summer heat has gone, typhoon season is finished and the cooler weather ushers in the red, gold and yellow leaves of Autumn. Here in central Honshu the colours should be just starting, hillsides of terraced rice paddies have been harvested and Chrysanthemum blooms add patches of colour to cobble stone lanes and gardens.

To enhance your cultural experience of Japan we have included a Tea Ceremony and visits to Mikimoto Pearl Island, MOA and Adachi art museums and a selection of famous landscape gardens. Walk along the historic Tokaido Trail and through forests and gardens that should be starting to show their glorious autumn foliage.

A Culinary Adventure

This is a tour to tempt your taste buds with a variety of authentic Japanese styles of food presentation including Izakaya, Sushi, Kaiseki and banquet. When Japanese people speak about gourmet foods they often refer to seasonal dishes, and autumn is one of the best times to experience the most delicious Japanese food. Every dinner is going to bring new visual and taste sensations, that set Japanese food aside from that of other countries. Here food presentation will enthuse even the most amateur photographer to capture their meal in a photo.

Our hands on cooking school experience will help you to learn about some of the tricks of the trade. We have included all breakfasts and all dinners from 9 November, and buying lunches can open up a whole new world of opportunities for you, such as enjoying the famous ' Bento ' Japanese lunch box and to savour the flavours of local culinary delights.


Accommodation & Baths

Traditional Japanese style accommodation for six nights on this journey will give you the opportunity to feel the rejuvenating effects of a therapeutic spa bath and sleep in the oriental splendour of a room with sliding paper doors, a woven tatami floor and a futon bed (with mattress).

In Tokyo and Kyoto you will be staying in elegant 5 star western style hotels with all the luxuries you would expect of a first class international property.

Only on this tour will you experience some of the best hot springs in Japan, including private spa rooms, traditional public baths, a bath full of rose petals, pools with a view, open air ' rotenburo ' baths and the biggest outdoor spa pool in Japan. For our guests who are not accustomed to being in an onsen spa with anyone else, your rooms all have private facilities, including toilets with seats.


The Japanese Onsen Experience

Enjoy the cultural elegance of staying in traditional Japanese style accommodation where you can relax in the therapeutic waters of natural hot spa baths and enjoy fine local cuisine at Japanese style banquets which are included for your pleasure. After dinner you can wander around the villages dressed in your Yukata (gown with big sleeves) and Geta (wooden shoes) provided by your inn.
