British
Columbia - West Coast Canada
Your journey commences in Vancouver then cross by ferry to
Vancouver Island where we stay in Victoria, the capital city of British
Columbia.
The 'must see' VanDusen Botanical Garden, Sun Yat Sen Gardens, Dr Nitobe
Garden, Queen Elizabeth Park, Horticultural Centre of the Pacific and
the world famous Butchart Gardens will all be visited during our visit.
In addition to these you will also be gaining access to private gardens
and meeting the owners and gardeners who maintain these botanical works
of art .
Quebec & Ontario - Eastern Canada
We fly to Quebec
then work our way along the St Lawrence Seaway through Ontario to Niagara
Falls, one of the world's most breathtaking sights.
Both British and French heritage will be experienced as we discover
the attractions of Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa and Quebec City. We explore
cobble stone lanes in old Quebec, cruise around the narrow waterways
of Thousand Islands National Park and see why Canada's flag with the
red maple leaf is so appropriate. See the Locks of Rideau Canal, the
huge expansive Lake Ontario and the great St. Laurance River.
Quebec is the heartland of French Canadian culture with all the trappings
of fine food, architecture and culture reminiscent of old world Europe.
Meet the People
Your Tour Manager and horticultural authority on this tour will be Mr
Ross McKinnon curator in charge of both Brisbane Botanic Gardens. Ross
has once again donated his own holiday time to lead you through some
of Canada`s most beautiful gardens and historic cities. Ross is well
known as a radio and TV garden show presenter and garden writer for
several magazines and newspapers.
In addition, you will be accompanied through Eastern Canada by Mr Larry
Hodgson , a resident of Quebec and author of 7 books on garden design
and plants. Larry has also led a number of botanical and garden tours
to other various international destinations.
Your BC garden hostess will be Mrs Joan Looy whose social interaction
with private garden owners in that province gives our guests the advantage
of getting into some exquisite and unusual gardens that are not usually
open to the public.
These are the people who know intimate details that will truly enhance
your knowledge and enjoyment of each place you visit.
Exclusive meetings with garden club members in their own private gardens
will be just some of the many highlights of this journey. University
of British Columbia and Montreal Botanical Gardens will be visited accompanied
by staff and Friends of the Botanic Gardens.
Something for everyone
This is your
chance to visit Canada`s most picturesque areas steeped in history from
the days when the British and French fought over Quebec. Here is a melting
pot of many cultures resulting in a diverse profusion of art, architecture
from baronial castles and modern skyscrapers to log cabins and pretty
white-steepled village churches.
Springtime blooms will be at their peak in the Eastern Provinces whilst
in the west, summer flowers will brighten the countryside and we have
chosen the best gardens for you to visit.
Bird watchers might even get some interesting sightings and whales are
frequently seen in the St Lawrence River.
Most accommodation is for two nights at each stop, so you don't have
to pack up each day and all hotels have been chosen for their charm
or convenience.
